Advanced technologies for propulsion and power generation
Objectives
HECARRUS provides the full design loop of a 19-PAX commuter aircraft taking multiple configurations, architectures and innovative solutions into consideration.
Challenges
Specific scientific and technical challenges exist in hybrid-electric propulsion due to the coupling of different components. Categorization and specification of gaps from current State-of-the-art to the required technology for a viable commuter aircraft is needed.
Coupling the most efficient turbine engines with electric power generators and advanced battery technologies
• Rethink flight
Small (hybrid) electric planes just like the conceptualised 19-passenger commuter aircraft are about to change regional air travel in the future.
• Safety first
The adopted morphological solution and the aircraft top level requirements will be compliant with the level 4 FAR23/CS23 regulations.
• Ultimate goal
• Respect the environment
The project offers an environmental and community (noise) friendly aircraft solution that will support carbon neutral growth and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.
• Innovate
The focus is on coupling the most efficient turbine engines with electric power generators and recharging batteries. State-of-the-art technologies are examined along with innovative solutions.
