Final Project Meeting at BETA CAE Systems

We are happy to announce that the final project meeting will be held in-person, at the premises of our Technical Advisory Board member, BETA CAE Systems SA (https://www.beta-cae.com/).

We will be presenting the overall work done, leading to the final conceptual designs of HECARRUS, a hybrid-electric commuter aircraft targeting for near zero emissions.

The discussion will be based on the following technical research and innovation items:

-Gas turbine framework;

-Electrical Power System;

-Thermal Management System;

-Aircraft sizing & Mission analysis;

-Full design loop integration;

-Life Cycle Analysis & Economics;

-Higher fidelity studies on aerodynamics and structural analysis.

The ASME Turbo Expo 2022 Conference is to be held in-person at the Rotterdam Ahoy Convention Centre in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This year’s theme is ‘Road Mapping the Future of Propulsion & Power’.

In this event, the HECARRUS Consortium members will present several technical articles including main findings of our project. Moreover, they will chair-sessions related to hybrid-electric propulsion. Should you wish to meet us, join us in this event!

GPPS Forum 2022, Joint panel session

Zürich, Switzerland, June 22-23

The GPPS Forum will be held in-person at the premises of ETH in Zürich. The event will keep the two-day format. One day will be dedicated to Aviation & Aerospace and one specifically for the Energy Systems.

We are delighted to announce that we have agreed with the Organizing Committee of the forum to schedule a dedicated session on hybrid-electric aircraft, with emphasis on the commuter aircraft and small air transportation. This will be a joint dissemination activity with the two sister projects of HECARRUS, namely UNIFIER19 and ELICA. Additionally, the panel session will also include representatives from Clean Aviation, Small Air Transportation (SAT) as well as from Technical Advisory Boards.

New project related work published

Part of the reviewing work included in HECARRUS has been published in the Open-Access, Aerospace Journal. The work includes a thorough survey on the work done globally for the future electrical propulsion-based aircraft concepts. Moreover, the barriers and needed future technological development paths are discussed, along with detailed assessments of the implications and needs pertaining to future technology, regulation, certification and infrastructure developments.

The purpose of this first newsletter is to inform the public on the activities done during the first six months of the project life cycle. Even though it was planned to be published by the end of March, the uncertain situation of the COVID-19 virus outbreak postponed its release.
